Ketu in the 5th House in Vedic Astrology
Ketu signifies detachment, spiritual insight and the past. The 5th house, Putra bhāva, governs children, intelligence, mantra and past merit. Below is what the classical texts say when Ketu stands there, verse by verse, before the Shubham Method's modern reading.

Spiritual creativity and detached romance. Past-life connections with children surface, intuitive intelligence, sudden speculative gains or losses.
Where this layer and the classical texts differ, the classical texts take precedence.
Translated directly from the Sanskrit; verse numbers follow the editions used by the Vedastro engine. These are classical associations — tendencies, not certainties. 2 statements that name an age or a death are left out here: they can only be judged from the whole chart.
Questions
What does Ketu in the 5th house mean in Vedic astrology?
Ketu signifies detachment, spiritual insight and the past; the 5th house (Putra) governs children, intelligence, mantra and past merit. With Mercury in the 5th and its lord debilitated in the 6th, 8th or 12th, the text says the wife may bear only one child.
Is Ketu in the 5th house good or bad?
Neither on its own. The texts change the result with the planet's dignity (exalted, own sign, debilitated), the planets joined with it or aspecting it, and the strength of the house lord; the conditional lines above show how. The result then ripens in the planet's own period (daśā).
How do I know which house Ketu is in?
You need your birth date, time and place. The free Vedastro calculator computes the sidereal (Lahiri) chart and shows the house of every planet.
